International Rugby players get into shape in Monmouthshire.
International rugby players including British Lion and England’s Danny Grewcock recently visited one of the Outdoor Education Centres near Gilwern to undertake a challenging team development course.

The 32 players from Bath Rugby Club completed the three day course that included climbing the Crows nest, canoeing on Llangorse Lake and timed runs up both the Blorenge and Sugar Loaf mountains either carrying a telegraph pole or a full barrel of water! The forwards and backs were split into smaller units of 6, competing during many of the activities. This ensured that not only were record times being set but these records were then beaten soon after as the competition really began to hot up!
Craig Armiger, site co-ordinator at the Monmouthshire County Council owned outdoor centre said “the players were fascinating to work with. It was like a mini United Nations with players from England, South Africa, New Zealand, France and Wales all combining to achieve the team goals. The winning team at the end of the three days was rewarded with a mystery tour in a super sized limousine”
“We usually work with students from the Gwent area and it was refreshing to see that although the physical achievements the professionals managed were of a very high standard the overall outcomes were similar to those achieved by young people during a school or youth club visit to the centre”
Similar courses can be arranged for sports teams, work groups and youth organisations. Details can be obtained from Craig Armiger 01873 832164
