Council Christmas Creations
11th December 2007
Monmouthshire County Council’s Leader and Chairman have been delighted with the Christmas cards created for them by visitors to two Monmouthshire projects that give people with disabilities opportunities to learn new skills.
Andrew Crump, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, has had his official card designed by Ben Hopkins, who visits the Swancraft Studios in Monmouth twice a week.
When they met this week Ben told Councillor Crump how he enjoyed making the card:
“I come here every Wednesday and Friday and make all sorts of things - it’s great fun.”
Andrew Crump, Leader of Monmouthshire County Council, said:
“Thank you very much Ben, I will be sending these cards all over Wales and I think that the design is excellent.
“I can hear the laughter and chatting of the people in the workshop and it has a wonderful relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The studio is one of Monmouthshire’s hidden gems.”

Cathy Yeates, who works at Swancraft Studios, said: "We want the people who come here to become more independent and confident. Seeing their works displayed in the shop next to the works of local artists never fails to increase their self worth.”
“The studio opened in 2002 as a result of improvements in Day Services for people with disabilities. Inside there is also a shop that gives local artists a chance to display their work for a small commission. It would be a great place for anyone who has last minute Christmas presents to buy.”
Chairman Chris Woodhouse has his card designed by Andrew Price, who visits the Splatters Art studio in Abergavenny.
The Splatters art project inspires also its student to develop their creative talents.
Councillor Woodhouse said: “This is an excellent drawing and I’m very impressed with my card. The design shows two snowmen holding hands and I’m sure it will bring a smile to all of my friends and colleagues who will receive my card.”
