There are a lot of services being provided for older people in Monmouthshire, and a lot of plans being made about the future. At the same time organisations have many different initiatives and projects that they are undertaking. When there are so many separate things going on, it can be difficult to prioritise, and it can be even more difficult for any of us to see the ‘big picture’. Having a strategy specifically for older people in Monmouthshire means that there is an opportunity to look very widely at what life is like for older people in the county, and then to decide what we need to prioritise in order to improve things, for now and for the future
At a Monmouthshire level, there is an “Older People’s Strategic Partnership” that brings together public and voluntary sector organisations from across the county, plus older people themselves, to look at how the national strategy can be delivered at a local level. This partnership has produced the Older People’s Strategy for Monmouthshire 2005-2008. This local strategy picks up on the Welsh Assembly's priorities and identifies how Monmouthshire will take them forward to meet local needs. It includes the background to the Strategy and lists some of the main objectives for the next three years.
