Wednesday 30th July 2008
“Go wild nature day at Abergavenny Castle
10.30am to 4.00pm

Come to Abergavenny Castle (SO 299 139) and enjoy lots of activities including fresh water dipping for mini beasts (bring your wellies), a flying display of birds of prey, and join in a photographic treasure hunt with the Monmouthshire Countryside Service. Become a castle detective using photographic evidence to search for clues. Suitable for ages 5-11. All children to be accompanied by an adult. Cost: Children: £2.00;  Adults: free.

“Dragon kite making workshop and walk at Caldicot Castle and Country Park
11.00am to 1.00pm

Join Sarah Jones to track the dragon to its lair by following a trail made from natural things. Bring along a carrier bag and some straws and make a dragon kite. Wear stout shoes and bring a waterproof coat. Barrier free route. Assistance dogs only please.

“Moths and bats on tour at the Old Station, Tintern”
8.00pm until late

A fun evening for all ages discovering moths and bats as you have never done before using live moth traps and electronic bat detectors.  There will be quizzes and games while we wait for it to get dark after which we will go in search of moths and bats around the Old Station site. Family event - all children to be accompanied by an adult. Barrier free route. Assistance dogs only please.

Cost: £2.00 per person. Booking essential on 01291 689566

ACCESS to the Old Station


Essentially Old Station Tintern and the meadows alongside are “barrier free”.  There is an accessible toilet as well as baby changing facilities in both male and female toilets.    Please note that access to the Signal Box does require use of a steep flight of steps.
 
Countryside Mobility Scooters and wheelchairs at site (register and book with site staff on 01291 689566).  Accessible toilet on site. Bus number 69 passes the entrance.  Contact www.traveline.org.uk for more information. Tel 0870 608 2 608 daily between 7.00a,m and 9.00pm.

Miniature Train Rides

 

The Wye Valley Railway Society will be running their miniature train rides from 11am – 4pm with rides costing £1.00: Sunday 27th July

 

The trains (diesel and occasionally steam) run throughout the day from in front of the Old Station signal box. The journey of approximately 300 yards takes passengers southwest down the site to where the original railway would have crossed over the river. The engine is then turned around via a turntable ready to take passengers back to the signal box.  The ride is suitable for passengers of all ages.
