Every year the Monmouthshire street lighting section awards a Contract to a specialist for the upgrading of some of its columns. and the replacement with new galvanised steel columns along with improved lighting units.
During 2004 MCC installed over 200 new columns within the area.
Additional Lighting Schemes
This is where a request is made either by County Councillors, Town and Community Councils or residents of Monmouthshire for either new or improved lighting within a certain area.
This request may be due to the fact that the street has no lighting or that the existing lighting is so far apart that most of the street has dark patches and therefore extra columns are required to improve the lighting needs.
This work is only considered following receipt of a written request for the extra lighting, and this will be reinforced where several residents within a street have supported the request. This ensures that the views of the residents have been taken into account.
Changing Lanterns
Each year MCC also remove old lanterns and upgrade the lighting using the new modern lanterns with better light output. Over the past two years most of this work has been carried out within the street of the main towns having to assist with the effectiveness and operation of the C.C.T.V. cameras.
