Details of scheme:
To book a journey on the bus, members of the scheme need only call a free phone number, Tel: 0800 085 8015 at least 24hrs in advance, to book their journey with the Grass Routes Co-ordinator. Please note that the free phone number is manned from 13.00hrs to 16.45hrs Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours an answer phone service is provided.
There are scheduled routes for each day between main towns, which are flexible depending on demand.
The bus operates between the hours of 08.00hrs and 18.00hrs, Monday to Friday, serving the main towns of Monmouth and Abergavenny taking in all communities within Central Monmouthshire and the Bryn-y-Cwm areas. In the very near future, the Council is planning to extend the service into the Lower Wye and Severnside areas, taking in the main towns of Caldicot and Chepstow.
The cost of membership is £5.00 per houshold (one off payment).
To become a Grass Routes member complete and print a copy of the Grass Routes Membership Form.
Each journey book costs £2.00 for adults and £1.00 per child and will cover both a single or return journey booked that day.
Concessionary passes are now accepted, on all daily Grass Routes services.
The vehicle is also available for hire to Community groups, for evening and weekend use. The cost for group hire is £50.00 per full day or £25.00 per half day/evening use.
The first 40 miles are free of mileage surcharge; thereafter a charge of £0.40p per mile is levied.
As previously stated, the "Grass Routes" bus operates with volunteer drivers and to maintain the success of this scheme, more volunteer drivers are needed. If you would like to become a volunteer driver, even if you can only spare 1 or 2 days a month, this would be much appreciated. Free MIDAS training is provided to all volunteer drivers and out of pocket expenses will be paid including lunch and mileage allowance.
