Junk Mail
60,000 tonnes of junk mail is generated in Wales each year. Junk Mail is not only irritating, but is another example of misuse of resources as much of this mail will go straight into your rubbish bin and end up as landfill.
You can recycle your junk mail in the Black Boxes or to stop receiving it altogether contact your local One Stop Shop, or Waste Awareness Wales, for more information.

Plastic Bottles
There are eight sites for recycling plastc bottles throughout the county. The banks fill up very quickly and our merchant empties them up to three times a week. Please ensure that only plastc bottles are placed in the banks (preferably washed and squashed). Our contractor is unable to collect plastic food trays, yogurt pots and plastic film. To keep our sites clean and tidy please avoid placing any excess materials on the floor as these do not get recycled.
Furniture
Instead of taking your unwanted furniture to the tip, you can contact Homemakers. [www.hmcrecycling.co.uk]

Nappies
200 million disposable nappies end up in landfill every year in Wales alone. This causes a huge problem as nappies can take hundreds of years to break down, placing a large strain on our decreasing landfill capacity.
By choosing to use real cotton nappies you not only reduce waste but also save money. For more information contact the Recycling Team.
Monmouthshire County Council have been supporting a campaign for nappies for almost 10 years. There are also several independent nappy agents that now operate in the county and they are on hand to give help and advice on the types of nappies available. Some nappy agents work with the council to offer discount vouchers when parents buy a large number of reusable nappies with them.
Most recently a new nappy laundry service has opened in Monmouthshire where clean nappies are delivered to your door every week and the dirty ones are taken away for washing. The cost of this service is comparable with disposables and it is better for the environment because no waste ends up in landfill.
