Can I take bulky household items to my local Civic Amenity Site?
Yes. Household items such as furniture and white goods may be disposed free of charge. However, there is a charge for construction / DIY waste and fixtures & fittings (eg bathroom suites, fitted kitchen units, windows, doors, fencing and dismantled sheds etc)
Where waste can be clearly identified the charge is £3.50 inc VAT & landfill tax (for items up to 40kg) £7.00 inc VAT & landfill (for items between 40 - 80kg pro rata). For example a bath weighing up to 40kg would be charged at £3.50 a back boiler weighing 55kg would be charged at £7.00.
Where waste is mixed, loads will be charged at the minimum cost of £42.89 inc VAT & landfill tax for up to half a tonne. The cost per tonne is £85.78 inc VAT & landfill tax.
Items for which there is a charge have to be taken to either Five Lanes or Llanfoist Transfer Stations. They are not accepted at either the Troy or Usk sites.
Llanfoist & Five Lanes - these sites accept all electrical items including fridges, cookers, washing machines, tumble dryers, televisions and computers.
Mitchel Troy & Usk - these sites accept fridges, televisions and computers, together with all small electrical items. They will not accept washing machines, tumble dryers or cookers (including micro-waves). These items should be taken to Llanfoist or Five Lanes.
If you intend to use a large trailer or a van to deposit domestic waste at the sites you will need to pre-book prior to using the site usually giving 4 days notice.
