There are currently 31 Conservation Areas in Monmouthshire ranging from those that cover virtually the whole of the major town centres to the more specific designations that protect small groups of buildings,
eg village centres.
Within these areas Conservation Areas Consent is necessary for works involving substantial demolition even although the building is not listed and greater planning controls are exercised
over the design of extensions and new buildings.
