The purpose of Building Control is to enforce the Building Regulations and ensure good standards of construction and health and safety on building sites.

Building Control was revised in 1965 and national standards were introduced throughout England & Wales.  These standards have been continuous improved to the present day.

The office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) is now responsible for the formation and issuing of the Building Regulations, Approved Documents and allied legislation. These documents can be viewed on the OPDM web site.

Monmouthshire Building Control operates from 4 area offices as follows:

Monmouthshire Builders were again successful at the South Wales Quality Awards in Cardiff- for the second year running Priestley Developments won a highly commended award for their scheme at Eastwood House, Mathern. Kirrin Homes went one better and won the category for single houses with their scheme at Lakeside House, Coed y Gwent, Wentwood. The Lakeside House scheme will now go forward to the National Awards to be held in London.
