Removing Unecessary Barriers to Access
'Barrier free', in Monmouthshire, will mean no steps, kerbs, stiles, gaps less than one metre wide, strong crossfalls or slopes exceeding 1 in 5.
However surfaces may vary according to season, stock animals present, growth of crops or surfacing added.
A Route Suitable for Me ?
No-one can state a route is suitable for anyone or everyone. That is where we also try and provide details about access and facilites to enable informed personal choice.
Our Sites already have basic information drawn up in consultation with people having discerning requirements, following access audits.
Route information can be found on the Local and Barrier Free Routes downloads.
Route Quality Control
Please remember that most access to the countryside of Monmouthshire is provided by using PROW. These are public paths, usually crossing over private land. A total guarantee of a trouble free visit and use of the path is not posible to provide. But let us know about any problem. We will prioritise a reponse on those paths we promote or are known to be popular. Please use our new on-line form or contact us by telephone or post. We very much value your feedback.
Most of the promoted routes are regularly checked by a Pathcare team of active individuals in the community, who report back to the Countryside Section.
