Monmouthshire County Council is committed to working towards improving its rights of way network, taking a strategic look at what we have and how it could be improved for people living, working and visiting Monmouthshire.

The Rights of Way Improvement Plan (ROWIP) process, as required by the Welsh Assembly Government, has helped us to do this.

The ROWIP identifies, sets priorities and helps plan for improvements to the current access available in the county.  It contains Statements of Action to manage public rights of way and improve access to the countryside in Monmouthshire over the next ten years.

The Monmouthshire ROWIP was approved in October 2007 following extensive consultation.  It is available to download below.  If you would like to receive a printed copy ,or a copy on CD (or a copy in another format) please let us know - see contact details to right of this page.

The Assessment Report provides detailed information on the findings of the early consultations and research about access to Monmouthshire’s countryside, which helped us to produce the ROWIP.  A report of the statutory consultation process is also available.
