  • and must not be substantially less convenient for the public.
  • The effect on the adjoining landowners and the public's enjoyment of the route must be considered.

Extinguishments - "Once a highway always a highway"

  • County Policy to extend the public right of way network
  • extinguishments will not normally be supported unless an alternative path is created.
  • Extinguishments can be made only if it is not needed for public use.
Costs

The applicant is normally responsible for the cost of the order, an outline of the likely costs are contained in the application and guidance pack.

Detail of the procedure followed to execute a diversion or a closure.

Once a diversion or closure order is confirmed, a legal event modification order is published which amends the Definitive Map.  The Ordnance Survey are always sent a copy of this order so that they can update their "Pathfinder" and Explorer" Maps.
