The Welsh Assembly Government requires each Authority in Wales to produce a Single Education Plan which replaces four current plans required by statute: the School Organisation Plan, the Education Strategic Plan, the Behaviour Support Plan and the Early Years and Childcare Plan.
The Single Education Plan will act as a temporary measure. In 2008 each local Authority will produce an even more comprehensive Children and Young People's Plan
The Single Education Plan is a strategic document, the detailed actions required to fulfil the plan will be published elsewhere in operational plans.
The Plan covers the whole two year period and contains strategies for:
- Raising standards and improving the performance of the schools that we maintain;
- Raising the standards of education for children and young people not educated in school;
- Provision of school and Early Years places;
- Provision for support, advice and resources to schools to assist them in promoting positive behaviour;
- Support for children with behavioural difficulties in and out of school;
- Provision for pupils with additional learning needs;
- and developing community focus for schools.
The plan also contains targets set out in the previous plans mentioned above. These targets and associated data have been updated to reflect the current position as at July 2007.
