Governor Support Services was set up when the County Council was established in 1996. This was recognition that governing bodies needed support and training to carry out their function.
The Governor Support team is committed to providing a full range of administrative support, guidance and advice.
The team is responsible, among other things, for: preparation and despatch of agendas, following up the actions required from governing body meetings, appointing LEA governors and co-ordinating the governor resource library.
The clerks to governing bodies at most schools in the county are provided by Governor Services.
The clerks take minutes of the meetings and initiate the actions requested by governors at meetings.
Clerks are officers of the Lifelong Learning and Leisure directorate of the County Council. This makes for a strong relationship between Governor Services and the rest of the directorate.
If a clerk does not know the answer to a point raised, he or she will quickly be able to get the information.
