All domestic homes are liable for the payment of Council Tax although you may be able to claim Council Tax Benefit depending on your personal circumstances. Discounts are also available in certain circumstances.
Council Tax helps to pay for Council services including education, social services and refuse collection.
However, the money received from Council Tax is not enough to cover the cost of Council services and the Council receives additional money from the Government in the form of a Revenue Support Grant.
The Council Tax depends to a degree on our expenditure but is also dependent on Government grants and the amount of money received from the national pool of rates from business and other non-domestic ratepayers.
Your Council Tax also includes an additional charge to the following:
- Gwent Police Authority
- Your Community Council (if appropriate)
