Rural Community Action offers hands on, practical support through community development workers, all of whom are based in the community.

Community Development Workers offer support in developing community projects or development of community groups.

Help is given with acquiring skills, knowledge, confidence and experience to bring community led projects forward.

Examples of the types of the projects that can be assisted can be anything from the production of a community newsletter, mums and toddlers groups, village history or even the project development required for the construction of a new village hall.

The team can assist in widening skills and advise on potential community - friendly funding sources, developing local community groups in local areas, helping groups gain skills, knowledge and confidence to deliver community-led projects, large or small.

The work is (broadly) within four key themed areas supporting which are:

* Community hubs

* Rural skills

* Culture and Heritage

* Tackling rural isolation

General support for community groups is offered and could be (for example) training, feasibility studies, research, planning, partnerships, signposting and funding.

Who is involved?

The delivery of RCA in Monmouthshire, is managed through the adventa+ Local Action Group.  It is very much a partnership approach and is being delivered with the support of the European Community, the Welsh Assembly Government, The Welsh Development Agency, Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations and Monmouthshire County Council.

This partnership gives an opportunity to listen to the needs of local communities with a team consisting of  Richard Lewis, Deserie Mansfield, Shirley Hughes and Pam Lloyd.
