In September 2004 we appointed Henry Boot as the ‘preferred developer’ for the redevelopment of the Cattle Market site.
Henry Boot’s brief is to redevelop the site and provide a much needed supermarket, library and associated development. ASDA was selected as Henry Boot’s supermarket partner.
A planning application was submitted by Henry Boot that was unable to secure a planning consent. We made a commitment at this time to undertake a design competition to develop a scheme that we believe the community would support.
The competition has now closed and we received four entries from national architects. However, only two of the entries met the financial and design requirements of the development partners. The two qualifying entries will now be considered by an independent design panel in August 2008, but we would welcome your feedback.
Your feedback is an important part of the Cattle Market redevelopment. It will be considered by the panel when it selects the design that Henry Boot will adopt.
The judging panel is made up of representatives from:
- Abergavenny Town Council
- Bryn-y-Cwm Development Forum
- Design Council for Wales
- Henry Boot
- ASDA
- Monmouthshire County Council
