Monmouthshire celebrated a fabulous day of wellbeing this weekend at Usk Show as thousands of visitors flocked to the council’s exhibition marquee and took part in a variety of activities to keep them fit and well – from crazy golf, exploring the countryside trail, volunteering, arts and crafts, music, dancing, face painting to relaxing with friends over a cup of tea. Local performers Allegra Ladies choir, acoustic duo Silurian and belly dancers Topaz Tribal entertained throughout the day.
The packed marquee included volunteers and staff from the council’s countryside, leisure, tourist information, museums, youth service and fostering teams as well as others from community hubs, Careline, Mardy Park’s gardening group and the Monmouthshire Lettings service. Partners from the health service, Dewis Wales (website www.dewis.wales promotes wellbeing in Wales), Monmouthshire Housing Association, Shared Lives, Community Connections, Carers Trust South East Wales, Fairtrade Monmouthshire and Wales Air Ambulance contributed to the success of the exhibition. Residents were provided with an unique opportunity to talk to county councillors in an informal and engaging environment.
Council Chairman Maureen Powell said: “It was wonderful to meet our community at Usk Show and fabulous to see everyone having fun, taking selfies and having a chat about what matters the most in the Monmouthshire community. Lots of people signed up for our My Monmouthshire app which is available from the app store and gives us feedback about all things Monmouthshire. The café to promote volunteering, craft with Abergavenny’s Crafty women and fostering, facepainting with the youth service and crazy golf from our leisure team were all incredibly popular. It was a pleasure to welcome the Air Ambulance service which is one of my Chairman’s charities this year. I would like to thank all Mon CC colleagues and volunteers who worked together to make the day a success.”
