In 2013 Peter was appointed as a member of the Cardiff Capital Region Board and following this he was appointed as Vice-Chairman of the Cardiff Capital Region Transitional Advisory Panel. He is now Vice-Chairman of the Cardiff Capital Region Shadow Cabinet.
Paul Matthews, Chief Executive of the council said: “I have had the pleasure of working with hundreds of councillors dedicated to their place and community. Peter is something else, quite unique. His dedication and commitment are without parallel. His infectious personality helps him to transcend political divides making him an incredibly popular and effective figure in the public life of Wales. His leadership of the council is considered, thoughtful and purposeful. His warmth and humour is never too far from the surface even in the most serious of moments. He is an absolute pleasure to work with and I am delighted for him and for his family who I am sure will be feeling very proud of him.”
Steve Thomas, Chief Executive at the WLGA said: “I am delighted that Councillor Peter Fox has been awarded with a well-deserved recognition of an OBE for his services in the New Year’s Honours list. Councillor Fox has gained deep and genuine respect across all elements of the political spectrum within local government. Monmouthshire’s Deputy Leader, Cllr. Bob Greenland said: “Peter Fox has led Monmouthshire County Council for the past 10 years, which have been for all local government the most difficult since the Second World War. During that time he has steered the council through substantial cuts in budget while preserving front line services. His leadership skills are now being used to promote the golden opportunity of a Cardiff Capital Region and City Deal. Peter holds the respects of colleagues across Wales of every political party and this award recognises his ability to bring people together to work towards a common goal. It is thoroughly deserved.”
David Davies MP added “I am absolutely delighted with this news. Peter has worked tirelessly for Monmouthshire for many years and it is great that his efforts have finally been recognised.”
