Do You Enjoy Working With Children and Families?
About us –
Monmouthshire Children’s Services provides assessment and support services to families throughout Monmouthshire. We pride ourselves on providing proactive support and maintaining a high level of service to the children and families with whom we work. We actively seek to support our staff and we approach challenges from a solution focus perspective.
Typical technologies we use include PLANT – our database, mobile telephones, laptops, Information Hubs, Community Care Inform and remote working systems. You don’t need to be familiar with all of these technologies, but you must be prepared to learn about them.
We are committed to using research and creative problem solving approaches to the challenges that we face within our service as we strive for continual improvements.
If you are completely dedicated to working with Children and families and committed to finding the right solution that is in the best interest of the child, prepared to work hard, able to work to deadlines and love to learn new skills, you could be the person we need. If you are not afraid to tackle new areas and enjoy learning on the job, we will be delighted to support you.
You need to have experience of working with children and families in a Social Work setting, whether you gained that experience as a Student, within a charitable organisation, an experienced practitioner returning to working in children’s services following a break, or similar. What is important is your skill and enthusiasm. We strongly believe that what you can do is as important to us as your professional Social Work qualification that you must hold.
Our service users expect our Social Workers to keep them up to date and meet deadlines, so you need to be well organised, reliable and resilient.
You will need to be able to spot potential problems quickly. You must have the skill to be able to explain complicated issues to children and families and other professionals over the phone, in writing and visually.
You need to be able to find out with families what their strengths and difficulties really are and what matters to them. This is key to the job. You then need to be able to work out and present crystal clear options to the service users that meet their needs in terms they can understand.
As we have service users all over Monmouthshire, we are quite happy for you to work from home on occasion, as long as you can come into the office as required.
You need to own or have access to a car as we are based in Magor and no buses have been seen here in living memory. You must also be prepared to share your chocolate.
