Chepstow Leisure Centre is to host an event on Monday 18th April that will appeal to people seeking more involvement in Monmouthshire’s communities.  The Volunteer Opportunities Fair will feature key representatives from 20 different organizations and will demonstrate the value of volunteering as well as offering the chance to experience some of the activities involved.  The event runs from 4 to 6:30pm.  It is free to attend and open to anyone wishing to discover the many benefits of volunteering, learn or share skills and meet new people.

The Volunteer Opportunities Fair will promote the wide range of activities available across different sectors and raise the profile of volunteering with its positive effects on communities.  This is the first event organised by the Joining Up Volunteering in Monmouthshire group which has strong representation from organisations across the voluntary sector, including public bodies and housing associations.

Chair of the group Owen Wilce, Volunteering Officer at Monmouthshire County Council commented: “This event will be a positive start to the developments planned across the county by the Joining Up Volunteering group.  We are aiming to increase volunteering awareness with an emphasis on organisations working together to improve support for our volunteers.”

Individuals and voluntary sector organisations throughout the county may contact the Monmouthshire Volunteer Centre run by GAVO (Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations) for further information, support, advice and guidance; telephone 01633 241566 or visit www.volunteering-wales.net
