The NATO SummitCeltic Manor Resort, Newport

On 4/5th September 2014, Wales will host the largest gathering of international leaders ever to take place in Britain as the UK hosts the NATO summit at the Celtic Manor Resort in Newport.

To find out more information about the Summit, visit the NATO Summit Wales 2014 website.

Business as usual

There are no planned disruptions to any council services during the course of the NATO summit.

There are no planned school closures. All Monmouthshire schools will remain open during the course of the Summit. However, Chepstow and Caldicot Comprehensives will close at 2.15pm on September 4th only and Ysgol Gymraeg y Ffin in Caldicot will close at 2.15pm on September 4th and 5th. Mounton House School in Chepstow is closing at 2pm on Thursday and 2:15pm Friday.

Parents should have received communication directly from individual schools.  These slightly earlier closures simply ensure the safe transport of pupils with minimum disruption to education.

School transport services have adjusted their times accordingly for these schools.

Traffic and travel

There are no planned road closures although it is recognised that significant traffic congestion and delays are expected during Thursday 4th and Friday 5th September. This will be due to delegates arriving and departing the Celtic Manor Resort. There are no plans to close the M4.

Rush hours on Thursday evening and Friday morning will be busy so please plan your travel around these times.

From 10pm on Sunday 31st August until 7am on Saturday 6th September, there will be a number of road closures around the Celtic Manor Resort.  For further information, download the following information leaflet:
